The carving of wooden saints is a traditional craft of Puerto Rico. This carving is by master carver Pedro Pablo Rinaldi of Ponce.
The humble fisherman Simon, who was called by Christ to be his disciple, was given the name Peter and became the first leader of the Catholic Church. According to Catholic tradition, he was given the keys of the kingdom, which he holds.
