Santos is the name we give to this very traditional Puerto Rican craft of carving wooden figures of the saints.
This piece, a figure of the Virgin Mary holding her heart, is called "The Immaculate Heart of Mary." It and many of our saints figures are the work of master carver Pedro Pablo Rinaldi of Ponce, PR. Carved from a single block of wood, the figure is also hand-painted by Rinaldi and mounted on a base.
